Live Music $5 fundraiser benefiting
The Roots of Music program for students in our public schools Wednesday, May 20, 2009 at 9:00pm Blue Nile on Frenchmen St. Coming in Costume? Theme = "Pirates vs. Ninjas Battle" Come support The Roots of Music, a local music education program for middle-school students in our public schools. The Pirates vs. Ninjas Battle will feature the music of funkadelic blues rock band Box 100's, the funktastic Flow Tribe, and the funky hip-hop soul of Street Gumbo. Special guests include DJ Bobby Dean spinning for the Breakdancing 504 Rockers and James Bartelle of the NOLA Project. Choose a Side Come in Costume. $5 18+ show Doors open at 9. a non-profit project of Synchronicity Productions The Roots of Music is a music education program for middle-school students in New Orleans. The Roots of Music is run by Program Director Derrick Tabb of The Rebirth Brass Band, Band Director Lawrence Rawlins, and Instructors Shoan Ruffin, Allen Dejan, and Edward Lee. There are currently 60 middle students learning the rudiments of marching band music in weekly rehearsals at Tipitina's nightclub. This summer, the program will grow to 150 students and by the Fall we will be fully up and running as a daily afterschool program with 200 students in a dedicated facility.
