The Plaquemines Parish Heritage and Seafood Festival is
celebrating its Fifth Anniversary on Memorial Day weekend, Friday May 22nd through Sunday May 24th ! The Festival will again be held at Louisiana?s Medal of Honor Park on Barriere Road in Belle Chasse, Louisiana from 6:00 to 11:00 PM on Friday and from 11:00 AM to 11:00 PM on Saturday and Sunday. The Park is adjacent to the rear gate of the Naval Air Station-Joint Reserve Base. It is a fitting location to celebrate our heritage while saluting our Medal of Honor recipients and those who served and currently serve in our armed forces. Guests will enjoy delicious seafood fished from the Gulf waters and prepared by local restaurants. Carnival Rides, crafts from local artisans, Helicopter Rides over some of the most historical battlefields in the Nation as well as the Mississippi River, and continuous live music throughout the Festival are some of the many attractions. In four years, the Festival has donated over $83,000 to local charities, youth development groups and other worthwhile organizations such as the American Cancer Society, Children?s Hospital, Knights of Columbus, the Air National Guard, local schools, churches and medical facilities, and of course, the Medal of Honor Park. Admission is $5 for adults and FREE for children 12 and under. G ates open Friday at 6:00 PM, with an opening ceremony at 7:30. Local military service members will perform the National Anthem and provide the color guard. Afterwards, the nine-piece Rhythm and Blues band, The Bucktown Allstars will entertain the crowd. Saturday kicks off at 11:00 with great seafood, rides, crafts and local entertainment. Headlining on the Grand Bayou Stage at 1:00 is New Orleans? premier horn-powered dance band, The Boogie Men. By popular demand, Southern Cross from Houma, returns to the Stage at 4:30. Bag of Donuts will rock the parish at 8:00 with their ?baddest show on earth?. Stage 23 will host Skeeter & the Swamp Pop Band at 2:30 followed by good-time Cajun fiddler Amanda Shaw and the Cute Guys at 6:00. Sunday starts at 11:00 with another great line-up of bands. At 1:00 on the Grand Bayou Stage, experience the excitement of Mojeaux. Then at 4:30 the ever popular, Louisiana Music Hall of Fame band, The Topcats will get you on your feet. Stage 23 will host local favorites Big River Band at 2:30 followed by Ernie Wilkinson and the Hot Sauce Band at 6:00. Be ready at 8:00 for the grand finale as performed by The Chee-Weez! Based on charitable commitments from area businesses and over 8,000 in attendance last year, this festival is becoming one of Louisiana's largest crowd-pleasers.
