"The Life Story of Ms. Yvonne Busch" Saturday, May 16, 2009 1:00 pm – FREE Bicentennial Education Building Room 203 Winner of the Ava Platinum Award, Hermes Gold Award, & the Telly Bronze Award Based on the book “Chord Changes on the Chalkboard: How Public School Teachers Shaped Jazz and the Music of New Orleans” by Dr. Al Kennedy, UNO history instructor and UNO Midlo Center Research Associate. Produced and directed by Leonard Smith III Yvonne Busch's former band student at Carver Senior High School Narrated by Hal Clark, host of WYLD FM Sunday Journal. “Because of Miss Busch, instead of just being a drummer, now I'm a musician.” – James Black Former band students of Yvonne Busch include saxophonist James Rivers, composer and instrumentalist for Clint Eastwood films, including The Bridges of Madison County, Bird and Tightrope; Herlin Riley, renowned jazz drummer, The Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra; George Davis, original guitarist in the Broadway production of A Chorus Line; drummers Joseph "Smokey" Johnson, John Boudreaux, James Black, Sullivan Dabney, Herb Taylor, Ernie Elly, and Tony Bazley; New Orleans music legends James “Sugarboy” Crawford, Theron Lewis, and Porgy Jones; and, many more! Bicentennial Education Building is located at UNO on Founders Road. From Elysian Fields, turn left onto Leon C. Simon, go to second red light, turn right. Third building on the right. Room 203 is upstairs. |
