On Thursday, April 23, at 6pm, the Contemporary Arts Center (900 Camp St.) hosts Representing Music: A Panel Discussion on the Works of Michael P. Smith. This special Jazz Fest-time panel will salute photographer Smith and his artistry behind the lens. Leslie Smith, singer, songwriter, author & daughter of Michael P. Smith, will moderate the discussion which features panelists photographer Keith Calhoun; Dan Cameron, Director of Visual Arts, CAC; photographer Chandra McCormick; bassist George Porter Jr. (The Meters, Porter Batiste & Stoltz); and Jan Ramsey, Publisher and Editor-in-Chief of OffBeat magazine.

Representing Music: A Panel Discussion on the Works of Michael P. Smith is being held in conjunction with In the Spirit: The Photography of Michael P. Smith from the Historic New Orleans Collection, a set of exhibitions being held concurrently at the CAC and HNOC. The exhibition Michael P. Smith: Twenty-Five Jazz Fests opens at the CAC on April 17 for a 6-8pm opening reception, and remains on view with free gallery admission through July 12.
