WHAT:
In conjunction with this year's Jammin' on Julia, the annual Spring art stroll on the gallery-lined Julia Street, collaborative warehouse-style space Studio 527 presents an opening of Robert Tannen's latest work titled "Show of Balls" on Saturday, April 4. The latest exhibition by the acclaimed southern artist and urban planner features 300 new drawings of basket, foot, soccer, bowl, base, golf and other balls with graphite on 11" by 11" fine paper. Also on view are works by Tina Freeman, Tina Girouard, Sally Heller, Karoon Davajian, Joe Moran and Julia Mandle which continue through April 19. Other Tannen exhibits also include a scale model of the "Eye-Full Tower" based on the ubiquitous Mardi Gras step ladders and proposed to be constructed on the Champs Elysees overlooking the Mississippi River. WHEN: Saturday, April 4, 2009 6:00 - 9:00 p.m. WHERE: Studio 527 527 Julia Street New Orleans, La. 70130 WHY: These portraits of balls demonstrate the relationship between iconic ball games and the physical universe - of galaxies, stars, planets, comets and other celestial bodies hurtling through space - and are a continued exploration shown in Tannen's boulder and stardust work last August. |
