The Open Ears series of concerts
Tuesday March 31st at the Blue Nile...The Open Ears series of concerts presents Michael Skinkus and Moyuba Michael Skinkus founded Moyuba in 2002 as a means to create modern Jazz compositions based upon the Yoruba sacred songs and bata rhythms that form the ceremonial music of Santerķa or Regla de Ocha in Cuba. The band uses the sacred songs and rhythms as a base for it's original compositions that are in fact suites of songs dedicated to individual orichas such as Elegua, Ogun, and Ochosi. Moyuba won the Big Easy award for 2007 as the best World Music band. The band's name, Moyuba, is a word in Yoruba which means "to pay homage." That is the goal of the original ompositions by Moyuba.
