Council President Clarkson
Lobbies Louisiana's Federal Delegation
For Regional Planning Projects and Recovery Needs

Council President Jacquelyn Brechtel Clarkson is in Washington, D.C. today with parish leaders from across Southeast Louisiana to lobby Louisiana's federal delegation for vital infrastructure and recovery needs.

She and a delegation including Mayor Nagin and parish presidents from Jefferson, Plaquemines, St. Bernard, St. Tammany, St. Charles, and St. John parishes will meet with Senators Mary Landrieu and David Vitter, as well as Congressmen Charlie Melancon, Rodney Alexander, and Joseph Cao before returning to New Orleans tomorrow evening.

"Taking a regional approach to public works and recovery projects allows us to focus on infrastructure that runs across parish lines and affects all of Southeast Louisiana," Council President Clarkson said. "This has major bearing on many projects, including, significantly, our evacuation routes."

She added, "Taking this approach shows that we excel at working for the good of the entire Southeast Louisiana region."

The Council President will advocate for several public works projects that are of particular importance to New Orleans, including:

$1 million to aid in the rehabilitation of Tulane Ave. from Carrollton Ave. to South Rampart St.
$6.5 million to aid in the rehabilitation of St. Charles Avenue from US 90B to Nashville Avenue
$10 million for the reconstruction of Fleur de Lis Boulevard 26th Street to Old Hammond Hwy.
$2.5 million for the rehabilitation of Carrollton Avenue from St. Charles Avenue to Claiborne Avenue
$3.5 million for the rehabilitation of Congress Drive from Hayne Boulevard to US90
$4 million for the rehabilitation of Michoud Boulevard from I-10 to Lake Forest Boulevard
$3.4 million for the rehabilitation of Rampart Street from Common Street to Elysian Fields Avenue
$7 million for the rehabilitation of Broadway Avenue from St. Charles Avenue to Claiborne Avenue
