The increasing number of young black men dying from violent crimes, or committing them, has grabbed the attention of New Orleans pastors.

The pastors are organizing a rally called "The Event," scheduled for March 28 at Armstrong Park. They are asking at least 10,000 members of the black community to join them for a day of "caring."

"We care about grieving mothers. We care about the lives of our children being lost on our streets. We care about the violence that keeps so many crippled and wounded," said Reverend John Raphael. "We want to on that day as a community make a declaration , a pledge, a covenant with ourselves, a ceasefire, that we're no longer going to sit idly by while others take lives."
